Z.Z: First of all, should I call you "Count De Efrit" or do you have a real name too?!
In the cases about "Ekove Efrits" I expect using of "Count De Efrit".
Z.Z: What does "Count De Efrit" means?
That’s a nickname I chose for my dark internal personality and its meaning is hidden in what I create.
Z.Z: As one of our Black Metal musicians or as you have called it Depressive Metal, does this kind of music has anything to do with Satanism?
About "Ekove Efrits" absolutely not, and I personally never believed in Satanism. In fact Satan is a symbol of the nature's dark side for me. But Satanism is a kind of an ideology that can flow in every genre of heavy metal music even in "Depressive Black Metal". Though, most of Satanist bands have more violent and aggressive music and because of difference in contents and lyrics, they rarely put themselves in this kind of music.
Z.Z: What is Depressive Metal as a music style then?
About "Depressive Black Metal" I can tell u my opinion, that the main point of this genre is its sorrowful musical atmosphere. In fact subjects like pain, sorrow and hate must be clear and obvious in melodies, vocals and music instructions. In this kind of music, lyrics are highly sourced from painful and depressive feelings of the artist or musician. Therefore using the subjects as death, annihilation and suicide are more common in this genre than any other genre and in addition using of low tempos and senseful melodies is one of the main identifications of this genre.
Z.Z: So, what is "Ekove Efrits" to you?
"Ekove Efrits" is my own ideology, an understanding from the painful world around us. In fact it is a collection of pains, sorrows and fears with my own (and may the others') undiscovered illusions that is mixed up with music and is reflected with sick visions.
Z.Z: Is it a one-man project or are there other musicians who are helping you on the project?
No it is a "One-Man" project.
Z.Z: Why is it that most of the Black metal bands are one man bands in
This question could have different answers, in my opinion there is a lack of teamwork spirits and interests in Iranian people and so it is more obvious in black metal music. And also there is a lack of skilled and active instrument players in this kind of music too. The Iranian owners of the real black metal bands are those who suffer from many spiritual problems. They never make a band for just making a name and playing just music, but the reflection of their feelings and senses. And sometimes these feelings are so internal and deep so the artist can't share it with the other band mates.
Z.Z: When did you start the Ekove Efrits project?
I can tell u the winter of the year 2001 because I did record 2 weak tracks at the time but I didn't choose a name for this project and I didn't have any idea for making a band. Then in the year 2005 with the record of my first official Demo, "Unholy Graves”, I published those 2 tracks under the name "In the Black Minds" at a same time.
Z.Z: I see that you released some underground albums before, tell us about them?
They absolutely weren't so faultless and they did have their own weaknesses but I’m really proud of all of my demos. Unfortunately my self-released demos were published with so far worse quality than my newer albums. Because I was still looking for my footsteps, I started to create tracks with "Black/Gothic Metal" styles but after a while I sensed that it isn't a perfect reflection of my own feelings so I started so test other styles and after that at the beginning of the year 2006 I published the demo "Into The Funeral Witches", which had a more interest in "Raw Black Metal" so the measure of violent in my music was increased. After that in the next demo, " The Wraiths Of Forgotten Forest", which was published in the middle of the year 2006, I could get closer to the style which I was looking for, "Depressive Black Metal" by creating more sorrowful atmospheres and by increasing the hate and the anger of the music and also a main change in my musical instructions and vocals. Therefore I could make a deal with "Evil Distribution" to publish it, so it could attract a fine number of my fellows especially from outside of
Z.Z: Is there any new stuff and recordings on your website soon?
Yes, if "Midwinter Records" do it in time with no delay, at the end of May-2007 my split album with the band "Bard Brann" from
Z.Z: Tell us about the Ekove Efrits Video clip, "Incessant winds of despair". Who directed it?
This video is a common idea with the band "Sorg Innkallelse" and it is built for a common track which I recorded with that band, and "Sad Soul" and I did direct it. For the first experience in this field I can tell u that I am cool with the result.
Z.Z: How do you see the condition of Iranian rock music scene in
It is far better now than the past but it really needs more protection.
Z.Z: Is there any hope for Black Metal or Metal in general in the future of
As I mentioned before, there is a few real bands existing in
Z.Z: What are your plans for the future as a rock musician?
I am expecting not to answer this one, 'cause I don't count myself as a musician or an artist and all u can see is just a result of a sick soul, nothing more.
Z.Z: Could you give us some names of the Iranian musicians or bands in
Every band attracts opinions with what it creates; in fact those are philosophy and sense of a band in the cover of its music which make a band famous. In the case of heavy metal and specially black metal, there is some good bands in Iran who I believed that they are better than some of European bands and they deserve a better place than they have now but I am expecting to not to mention a band.
Z.Z: Thank you and good luck
